Jacklyn Zeman, recognized for her 45-year portrayal of Bobbie Spencer on ABC’s General Hospital, has sadly left us at the age of 70. Sources suggest that she fought against cancer briefly before her unexpected departure.
The announcement of her passing was made by the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini. He took to Twitter to express his sorrow, stating, “I am devastated to inform you of the loss of our beloved Jackie Zeman.” He added, “Just like her famous character, the iconic Bobbie Spencer, she was a shining star and a dedicated professional, bringing optimism to her craft.”
ABC Entertainment and General Hospital also issued a statement: “Jacklyn Zeman has been a treasured member of the General Hospital and ABC family since she first assumed the role of Bobbie Spencer over 45 years ago. Her performance as the once-villainous, now-heroic character has left an enduring mark. She will be fondly remembered for her gentle nature and vibrant personality. Our hearts go out to Jackie’s family, friends, and dear ones during this difficult time.”
According to IMDb, Zeman became part of the cast of the long-standing daytime soap opera in 1977.
Her passing occurred just a short while before her birthday and shortly after her final appearance on General Hospital, which aired on April 27.
Denise Alexander, Zeman’s on-screen partner, shared a touching tribute: “I am unable to contain my tears, your laughter and voice continue to echo in my mind. Your kindness, wit, intelligence, and sweet nature have always been cherished by me. The warmest of hugs to you. You’ll forever hold a special place in my heart.”
Laura Wright, who portrayed Carly Spencer, Bobbie Spencer’s daughter on the show, expressed her grief on Instagram: “I am grateful for the incredible time spent with this wonderful lady. Jackie had fascinating tales, an infectious spirit, and such a remarkable life. She adored her time on General Hospital.”
Tamara Braun also offered her respects, saying, “Words fail me. This cuts deep and troubles me profoundly like nothing else. I yearn to embrace you, to share our laughter, exchange stories, engage in genuine conversations – for that is what we enjoyed.”
Jacklyn Zeman is survived by her two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey, from her initial union with Glenn Gordon. She also went on to marry and separate two additional times, tying the knot with Steve Gribbin and disc jockey Murray Kaufman, famously known as “Murray the K.”
Farewell, Jacklyn Zeman. Your absence will be keenly felt.
