At least 15 people have tragically died following a collision between a bus carrying elderly passengers and a truck in Manitoba, Canada. The crash occurred near Carberry, west of Winnipeg, on the Trans-Canada Highway. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), 10 individuals, including both drivers, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Eyewitness John Proven described the scene as a “major accident,” with one vehicle engulfed in flames and the front end of the semi-truck severely damaged. The bus, transporting seniors from Dauphin to the Sand Hills Casino in Carberry, was involved in the tragic crash. Emergency services, including an air ambulance and 12 ambulances, responded swiftly.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision, but footage indicates the truck had the right of way. RCMP Superintendent Rob Lasson emphasized that no conclusions have been reached, as the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident has drawn comparisons to the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy in Saskatchewan, where 16 people lost their lives. Manitoba officials have requested assistance from those involved in the Humboldt investigation, given the similarities between the two crashes.

William Doherty, CEO of the trucking company involved, expressed his sorrow and pledged full cooperation with the investigation. He told CTV News, “The thoughts of the entire Day & Ross team are with those who have lost loved ones in this terrible incident. We are hoping for the recovery of those injured.” He added, “We will fully cooperate with the investigation and offer any support we can.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also extended his condolences, stating, “The news from Carberry, Manitoba, is incredibly tragic. My deepest condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones today, and I am keeping the injured in my thoughts. Canadians stand with you during this painful time.”

The small, close-knit community of Dauphin, where many of the victims lived, has been left devastated. Mayor David Bosiak said, “Everyone in town knew someone on that bus. The shock is overwhelming. This is a tremendous tragedy for our community.”
“We’re all heartbroken,” he added, describing the incident as “a punch in the gut” for the town.
