From Inked to Inkless: A Father’s Journey through Painful Surgeries to Remove His Tattoos

Elder generations in the past cautioned against getting tattoos due to their permanent nature, fearing that individuals might eventually repent the decision. Nevertheless, contemporary times offer the solution of tattoo removal. While the process is painful, it proves effective after several sessions albeit potentially resulting in scarring. In any case, Leandro De Souza, aged 35, has made the choice to undergo laser treatments to eliminate nearly two decades worth of ink.

Residing from Brazil, Leandro De Souza is a proud father. However, his separation nearly ten years ago proved to be overwhelmingly distressing. Consequently, De Souza indulged in a lifestyle filled with revelry. Within this period, he adorned himself with over 170 tattoos, with the first one engraved at a mere age of 13. “I got my first one at 13,” De Souza recounted. “The initial ones were largely influenced by the idols of that era.” Nonetheless, he has recently embarked on a spiritual journey towards Evangelicalism, prompting his decision to undertake the laser tattoo removal process.

Initially, Leandro’s tattoos were inscribed in admiration of his favorite music bands like Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica. However, the majority of his tattoos originated during a decade-long spree following his divorce. Throughout this period, Leandro openly experimented with substances such as LSD, alcohol, and ecstasy.

Discovering Motivation for Eradicating Tattoos

“I couldn’t tolerate the lifestyle I was leading any longer. I felt like a spectacle at the events I attended, akin to a circus animal.” He expressed regarding his choice for tattoo removal. De Souza found himself at a shelter nearly a decade post his tumultuous divorce. This visit marked a turning point in his life. “The fundamental step in any aspect of life is acknowledging that you cannot endure it alone, that you are grappling with addiction, such as substance abuse,” De Souza articulated. “I accepted this reality, and entered the municipal shelter in Bagé. Within a week, a kind lady took notice of me and commenced enlightening me through evangelism.”

Embarking on a Fresh Chapter

It has been two years since De Souza altered his life trajectory and opted for the tattoo removal process. However, this journey is arduous and will be especially so for De Souza’s 170 tattoos. Furthermore, he now dedicates his time to conversing with “parents and offspring in confinement.”

Leandro instigated the tattoo removal process with the assistance of a tattoo parlor in Franco da Rocha, São Paulo, which learned of the notable changes in Leandro’s life direction. Presently, he has abstained from alcohol for three years and ceased consumption of tobacco and other substances for a year. De Souza anticipates six more sessions for tattoo removal before his skin is devoid of ink. His transformation thus far is nothing short of remarkable and inspiring.
