When it comes to tugging at the nation’s heartstrings, Britain’s Got Talent consistently delivers—and few acts have done it better than the Flakefleet Primary School choir from Lancashire. Led by their charismatic headteacher, Dave McPartlin, the group made an unforgettable first impression. Dressed in vibrant costumes, the children bounded onto the stage, setting the tone for a performance full of color, joy, and boundless energy.
Among them was 7-year-old Megan, who sweetly summed up their reason for entering the show: “I love singing!” Mr. McPartlin added with a laugh, “Some are fantastic singers, while others are just bursting with enthusiasm.”
Their rendition of Queen’s classic Don’t Stop Me Now was a whirlwind of organized chaos. With wild props, bright outfits, and oversized masks of the judges’ faces, the performance had everyone on their feet. Alesha Dixon called it “absolute chaos and a delight to witness,” while Simon Cowell praised it as a perfect example of what Britain’s Got Talent is all about.
A Golden Moment
No one was more moved than judge David Walliams, who was visibly emotional after the performance. “You’re just one of the most joyous things I’ve ever seen,” he declared, before hitting the coveted Golden Buzzer. The moment sent Flakefleet Primary School straight through to the live Semi-Finals.
Their semi-final performance—a high-energy take on Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero—was another crowd-pleaser. Once again, the children wore an array of whimsical costumes, and Mr. McPartlin joined in the fun, beginning the act in a dress before transforming into a superhero. The audience and judges were thrilled. Amanda Holden beamed, “You just bring so much happiness to us four, and the nation at large,” while Simon added, “I think you have a chance of winning the whole show.”
Finale and Legacy
Reaching the Grand Final, Flakefleet delivered yet another spirited performance, this time singing Rule the World by Take That. Their signature mix of chaos and charm was on full display, with a child descending from the ceiling dressed as a star, and Mr. McPartlin appearing as the moon. David Walliams praised his Golden Buzzer act once more, saying, “You’ve reminded us why the nation fell in love with you.” Ultimately, they finished in sixth place, but their impact was unforgettable.
Still Spreading Joy
Today, Dave McPartlin continues to lead Flakefleet Primary School with the same joyful spirit. During the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown, he teamed up with the BBC to support home learning through virtual lessons, offering reading sessions and bite-sized geography and history content. His mission to uplift and educate remains stronger than ever.
