Finding out you’re expecting triplets is a shock for any parent. So when 23-year-old Becki-Jo Allen learned she had three babies on the way, she was completely stunned. But that wasn’t the only surprise in store.
After giving birth, Becki-Jo and her partner discovered something extraordinary — their three baby boys weren’t just triplets… they were identical triplets. The odds? About 1 in 200 million.
Becki-Jo and her partner, who live just outside Liverpool, England, were already parents to their daughter, Indiana. She was about to become a big sister — not to one baby, but three.
Early in her pregnancy, Becki-Jo experienced severe sickness and headaches. Her doctors arranged an early ultrasound, and that’s when they delivered the life-changing news: she was carrying triplets.
“It was the biggest shock of my life,” Becki-Jo recalled. “We don’t have any triplets in the family, so it came completely out of the blue.”
At 31 weeks, the boys were delivered by C-section, each weighing around 3 pounds 5 ounces. They spent their first six weeks in intensive care before they were strong enough to go home.
Triplet pregnancies often come with complications, and it’s rare for all three babies to survive. But Rohan, Roman, and Rocco thrived, gaining weight quickly and astonishing doctors with their progress.
Initially, doctors said the boys weren’t identical. But visitors kept remarking on how alike they looked, prompting Becki-Jo to order a private DNA test. The results confirmed what she suspected — genetically, they were 100% identical.
Naturally occurring identical triplets are extremely rare. For this to happen, one fertilized egg must split into two, and then one of those must split again — all within the first ten days of pregnancy. In the entire United States in 2015, only four sets of identical triplets were born.
Despite their striking resemblance, Becki-Jo has no trouble telling her sons apart. “It’s only when they’re asleep that they look the same to me,” she explained. “They each have their own personalities. All three have dark birthmarks between their eyebrows, but Roman’s is slightly darker, and Rohan has one on his leg as well.”
Life with identical triplets is busy — the boys go through about 130 diapers and five packs of wipes every week. Thankfully, their big sister Indiana, now six, adores them. “She’s not one bit jealous,” Becki-Jo said. “Though I do feel a bit sorry for her having three little brothers to grow up with!”
The rare trio attracts plenty of attention, and it’s easy to see why — their bond, smiles, and unique story make them truly unforgettable.
