Renowned as ‘Daytime’s Leading Lady,’ thespian Susan Lucci boasts an impressive career in the realm of acting and television presentation. Her portrayal of Erica Kane in the daytime soap opera All My Children on ABC stands out as one of the most distinguished, with the character attaining an iconic status.
In its compilation of the 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time list, TV Guide positioned Lucci at the 37th spot in 1996.
The star of Devious Made also clinched a slot on VH1’s 200 Top Icons of All Time and was recognized as one of Barbara Walters’s Ten Most Fascinating People.
Regrettably, Lucci has been grappling with health issues lately. In 2018, she underwent an emergency heart operation to address a substantial blockage in her arteries that posed a grave risk of a fatal he-art attack.
The signs she had been encountering, including breathlessness, chest pain, and pressure, raised concern. Upon visiting the hospital and undergoing a CT scan, it was revealed that she had 90% blockage in the primary artery of her heart and 70% blockage in another branch.
During an interview, Susan Lucci disclosed that she underwent a second critical cardiac procedure.
While her symptoms were less dire this time around, she managed to detect them promptly, much like the first instance.
Discussing her health condition, Dr. Richard Shlofmitz, the cardiology chairman at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York, shared with Good Morning America, “She wasn’t undergoing a heart attack or cognitive impairment this time. Nevertheless, certain indications gave me cause for concern.”
Had she not recognized the symptoms promptly, she could have been at risk of a severe heart attack.
Following her operation in January 2022, Lucci’s husband Helmut Huber passed away at the age of 84 two months later.
“Subsequently, nothing seemed significant, be it my health or anything else,” she confessed. “I was indifferent to everything.”
“Losing the love of my life has been devastating, but I have friends who bring joy and keep me engaged, motivating me to forge ahead step by step,” she continued.
It is a fact that not every cardiac ailment exhibits noticeable symptoms since the sensation may not be centered in the chest for everyone.
Lucci resolved to speak candidly about her health-related challenges to urge fellow women to take a proactive stance toward their well-being.
“Heed your heart and take action. Advocate for yourself and embrace your inner ally. It’s a life-saving decision,”
Lucci emphasized.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the platform I do. I desired to contribute meaningfully beyond mere entertainment.”
In 2019, Susan Lucci graced the catwalk at the 2019 American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection.
Lucci extends her gratitude to the medical professionals who played a pivotal role in preserving her life.
