Tony Knight, a comedian and renowned ‘dog listener,’ tragically passed away in a freak accident. A family member confirmed that the British comic, residing in Australia, died in June while attending the Rock ‘n’ Cars Festival in Lavaur, France.
“He was only 54 and having the time of his life,” the family member told Fox Digital News. “He was fit, healthy, happy, and had everything going for him. He was charismatic, funny, passionate, and deeply loved by his partner Hayley, his family, and friends around the world.”
French media reported that Tony was the only person injured when a large tree branch fell on him and five others. He later succumbed to his injuries. Local authorities are investigating the accident.
Fans shared their condolences on social media. “Disturbing news about Tony Knight. Tragic incidents are hard to hear. Remember how much happiness and laughter his comedy brought,” one person wrote on Facebook. “It’s insane that you don’t know when or how you’ll spend your final day on earth. Truly mind-boggling,” another added. “May your love rest peacefully. My heartfelt sympathies to your friends and family,” a third shared.
Tony’s partner, Hayley Wright, set up a GoFundMe page in his memory to cover funeral and hospital expenses. By July 5, the fundraiser had collected over $8,000 of its $20,000 goal.
In the months before his death, Tony was preparing for a UK comedy tour. He was also known for his love of dogs and referred to himself as a “dog listener” on his website. Hayley’s sister mentioned on the GoFundMe page that Tony “helped people all over the world” learn new ways to communicate with their pets.
Tony was set to embark on a UK comedy tour called Mad Dogs and an Englishman, scheduled to appear at the Edinburgh Fringe. The show was marketed as “The world’s first-ever comedy show about dog behavior. Stand up (and sit).”
