When she turned 47, Kate Jackson longed to be a mother, so she adopted a baby and embraced a typical mom’s life

Kate Jackson is a name synonymous with “Charlie’s Angels,” the iconic series and franchise. Widely recognized for her contribution to the show’s title, she quickly became a notable figure in Hollywood. Her career spanned various roles in films and TV projects, including “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” and “The Rookies,” earning her numerous accolades and exciting opportunities.

Despite her success, Jackson chose to step back from her career at its peak. She felt the need to prioritize her personal life, which had been overshadowed by her busy filming schedule.

Rumors circulated that Jackson was fired from “Charlie’s Angels,” but in reality, she and show-runner Aaron Spelling mutually agreed to release her from her contract. “What it comes down to is I got tired of them, and they got tired of me. I’m glad I’ve finally been able to hang up the halo,” she later explained in an interview.

Beyond leaving acting, Jackson physically distanced herself from Hollywood, selling her property and relocating to a farm in Keswick, Virginia. In 1987, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a lumpectomy and radiation treatment. Though she was declared cancer-free, the disease returned two years later, necessitating another surgery. She was eventually declared cancer-free again.

Jackson’s personal life saw her married three times. Despite always wanting to be a mother, she didn’t envision sharing a child with any of her husbands. Her first marriage to Andrew Stevens lasted two years after a spontaneous decision to wed. Her second marriage to New York businessman David Greenwald also ended after two years due to the challenges of a long-distance relationship. Her third marriage to Tom Hart, a ski lodge owner in Aspen, ended in 1993 after they kept their relationship low-key.

Inspired by meeting Rosie O’Donnell and her adopted child, Jackson decided to adopt. She connected with a mother-to-be unprepared to raise a child. Although the baby’s father had a tragic backstory, Jackson chose not to dwell on it, focusing instead on her joy of becoming a mother. “They handed him to me and I held him for a long time. He looked up at me with his bright little eyes,” she recalled of their first meeting.

Jackson dedicated herself to motherhood, actively participating in her son’s playdates and sports activities. At 57, she attempted a return to acting, but finding roles proved challenging after her long hiatus. Her last credited role was in “Criminal Minds” in 2007.
